Demi Moore’s career reached a remarkable milestone at the 2025 Golden Globe Awards, where the iconic actress won her first major industry award.

On the night of January 5, 2025, Moore was honored with the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical for her performance in The Substance, a genre-blending horror film that mixes sharp wit with a campy, dark edge.

Wearing a shiny silver gown, 62-year-old Moore stood on stage, shocked by her achievement.

“I wasn’t expecting that,” she told the audience. “I’m just in shock right now.”

It was a particularly emotional moment for the actress, who, despite an illustrious career spanning more than four decades, had never taken home a prestigious award like this—her third Golden Globe nomination marked her first win.

Moore looked back on her long career in Hollywood and said that after 45 years, she felt thankful and humbled by the recognition.

“I’ve been doing this a long time, over 45 years, and this is the first time I’ve ever won anything as an actor,” she said. “I’m just so humbled and so grateful.”

Though her resume includes beloved films like St. Elmo’s Fire and Ghost, Moore’s career has not been adorned with many major accolades, aside from a few People’s Choice Awards.

Her victory on January 5 was especially meaningful after a conversation she recalled from three decades ago with a producer who once labeled her a “popcorn actress.”

At the time, Moore internalized the criticism, convinced that success and acknowledgment weren’t meant for her.

“I made that mean that this wasn’t something I was allowed to have,” Moore explained. “I bought in and I believed that and that corroded me over time to the point where I thought a few years ago that maybe this was it. Maybe I was complete, maybe I’ve done what I was supposed to do.”

Just when Moore was feeling at her lowest, she received a big opportunity with The Substance, a unique and daring script that brought her love for acting back.

“I had this magical, bold, courageous, out-of-the-box, absolutely bonkers script come across my desk,” she shared. “And the universe told me that you’re not done.”

She thanked the film’s helmer Coralie Fargeat and co-star Margaret Qualley, among those who “provided me with so much love and encouragement through some of the darker times of making this movie”.

Moore shared inspiration over the idea of The Substance – a feminist allegory on “the diseased relationship that society has in their obsession to be youthful, beautiful”.

“In those moments when we don’t think we’re smart enough, or pretty enough, or skinny enough, or successful enough, or basically just not enough,” she said, “I had a woman say to me, ‘Just know, you will never be enough, but you can know the value of your worth if you just put down the measuring stick.”

Moore’s Golden Globe win opens a new and exciting chapter in her career. After facing many challenges and surprising people in the industry, she showed that the best successes can come when you least expect them.

Her family and friends were filled with joy, celebrating her win with heartfelt messages and excited posts on social media, sharing videos of their happy moments.

Although this award was long overdue, for Moore, the event meant something even more— it was a reminder that it’s never too late to redefine your worth.
