Aubreigh Paige Wyatt, a 13-year-old from Ocean Springs, Mississippi, died by suicide on September 4, 2023, after enduring years of bullying at school and on social media.

The Aubreigh Wyatt story, including her tragic death, brought widespread attention to the severe impact of bullying, especially in the age of social media.

The teenager, born on March 17, 2010, in Ocean Springs, took her own life in the early hours of the morning in her room, where her mother, Heather Wyatt, found her lifeless body.

By the time of her death, Aubreigh was an 8th grader at Ocean Springs Middle School, where she had been an all-A student, had a dynamic personality, and was very involved in church.

Her death was widely discussed on social media, especially on TikTok, where her mother shared the story to raise awareness for mental health and advocate against bullying.

The campaign included what is now widely known as the Aubreigh Wyatt doll video in which a doll representing Aubreigh was used to dramatise the bullying she endured.

This cause gained attention, with many messages of support being shared. However, it also led to legal action from the parents of four girls whom Heather accused of bullying her daughter.

A lawsuit was later thrown out; however, the grieving mother was ordered to shut down Aubreigh’s social media accounts.

Aubreigh Wyatt Death

As mentioned, Aubreigh’s death resulted from bullying she had experienced in both school and online settings. Her mother said that the teenager was continuously harassed by her peers, despite efforts to try and put an end to the behaviour, and felt hopeless.

Heather claimed that the bullying which was both physical and mental led to Aubreigh’s tragic death. She stated that the 8th-grade student had been persistently bullied by a group of at least four classmates since 5th grade.

The bullying occurred not only at school but also at social events and on social media.

Heather complained to the school authorities and parents of the students who were constantly bullying her daughter.

However, since no action was ever taken, the bullying acts continued.

Aubreigh Wyatt’s Lawsuit

Aubreigh’s mother took to social media to share Aubreigh’s story and advocate for justice and accountability but did not disclose the identities of her daughter’s bullies.

However, the bullies’ identities and personal information were widely circulated by users on social media, a move that led the parents of four accused girls to file a defamation lawsuit against Heather, claiming her social media posts included “false, damaging, and slanderous” remarks about their daughters.
